Teaching Holocaust Remembrance
This collection contains Holocaust lesson plans, resources and timelines for raising awareness of the tragic events of World War 2 and analyzing its impact on the world today. Teaching about human suffering and horrific tragedies can be difficult, but the need for educators to fill troubling knowledge gaps is clear. So why teach the Holocaust? One recent survey found that 49 percent of millennials cannot name a single Nazi concentration camp and 41 percent do not believe that 6 million Jews were murdered during the Holocaust. Fortunately, 9 out of 10 survey respondents felt that students should learn about the Holocaust in school, and a majority felt that a similar tragedy could occur again. To start your lesson planning, we recommend reading the Guidelines for Teaching About the Holocaust from the US Holocaust Museum and Memorial and then exploring the resources below.
