JAM Out with Jazz Appreciation Month

"The spirit of jazz is the spirit of openness." — Herbie Hancock

Jazz Appreciation Month is an annual festival held to celebrate jazz as an original American musical genre. April was chosen to be Jazz Appreciation Month to commemorate the birthdays of jazz greats Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Gerry Mulligan and Tito Puente. During April, schools are encouraged to teach students about the history and the genre of jazz. Celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month with your students using these free preK-12 lesson plans, resources and activities selected by the Share My Lesson team.
