Labor Union History & Social Justice

Collections

How do labor unions work? What impact have they had on the course of history, particularly in the United States? As the American Federation of Teachers celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2016, Share My Lesson has curated a collection of lesson plans, activities and resources to help you explore the role of labor unions with your K-12 students. Take a closer look at how labor unions strive to address fairness in the workplace, and help your students explore some of the social justice issues unions have fought for.

Labor History

As a new member of the American Federation of Teachers staff as well as an African American Woman and an ordained minister of the American AME Church, I want to remind AFT members and other Share My Lesson users about the important roles that Black Women have played throughout the history of the American Labor Movement up into the present day.
