PARTNER PROFILE

A PLACE IN THE MIDDLE is a collection of resources about Hawaiian concepts of gender diversity, the value of acceptance and inclusion, and how to create a school climate of honor and respect for all. It's based on an award-winning children's film about a young Hawaiian girl who dreams of leading the boys-only hula troupe at her inner-city Honolulu school, and an inspiring teacher who empowers her through traditional culture. By using a film made for youth rather than about them, and showing characters who are embraced because of their differences rather than despite them, A PLACE IN THE MIDDLE provides a unique opportunity to address bullying and intolerance and help create thriving, welcoming school environments.
