The chemicals and chemical processes associated with the genetic material are reserved for high school biology. Chromosomes must be described as structures in cells that contain the genetic material. Microscopes, micrographs, models and illustrations can be used to observe cells from different organisms in the process of dividing. It is not appropriate to learn the names of the stages of mitosis. The focus is on observing cells dividing as evidence that cells come from pre-existing cells and genetic material is transmitted from parent cell to daughter cells.
