Know that some organisms have similar external characteristics (e.g., anatomical characteristics; appendages, type of covering, body segments) and that similarities and differences are related to environmental habitat.

Identify characteristics for plant and animal survival in different environments (e.g., desert, forest, ocean).

Recognize how an animal or plant adapts to their surroundings for survival.

Using the out-of-doors to demonstrate to students how adaptation helps organisms to survive (e.g., coloration, beaks, gills, wings, etc.).
