American Industrial Movement

This Unit Plan is on the American Industrial Revolution for 8th grade. There are 10, one-hour lesson plans.

Lesson #1: This lessons objectives are focused on pre-industrialized agrarian settlements.

Lesson #2 Students will use a guided simulation to create two functioning agrarian towns. This lesson allows students to understand the pre-industrialized experience of living off the land and resources within close proximity.

Lesson #3: This lesson focuses on the beginning of the agricultural revolution and highlights the important inventors and inventions.

Lesson #4: This lesson focuses on early transportation through trains, steamboat, and planes.

Lesson #5: In this lesson students will learn about the rise of American industry. We will discuss the entrepreneurs Carnegie, Ford, Colt, and Kaiser.

Lesson #6: Students will learn about immigration and migration during the Industrial Revolution.

Lesson #7: Today the students will be learning about the Granger and Populist Movement.

Lesson #8: In this lesson students will learn about the working conditions, laissez faire policy, and women/children in the work force.

Lesson #9: Students will learn about the Labor movement and the rise of Unions.

Lesson #10: Students will learn about the utilization of mass production that was established during the Industrial Revolution. Students will learn about the equipment and goods that were mass produced during WWI which separated American manufacturing and production from its competitors.
