The U.S. population is becoming more and more diverse, and the need to embrace the many cultures in our classrooms is more important than ever. When a student’s learning environment respects their history, values, beliefs and traditions, students and their families are better positioned to thrive in school.
This annual calendar helps to regularly celebrate culture, diversity & inclusion with students. Each month, you’ll find a suggested day to celebrate that includes recommended resources from First Book and suggestions for a class, group or family-focused activity. You will also see month long observances, religious observances and added dates of cultural, historical or inclusive significance that have been included for 2023-2024.
Being culturally competent—having the ability to successfully teach students who come from cultures other than one’s own—is critical to the success of our increasingly diverse student population and society.
