About This Lesson
Art helps both Senna and Summa persevere through very difficult circumstances. Poetry inspires and motivates Senna to reach her goals; music inspires and comforts Suma.
In this activity, students will learn about the power of creating art to manage challenging situations through the stories of Senna and Suma. Students will use thinking and reflection skills to understand art as a strategy to support oneself and the role that it can play in a person’s life. They will make connections between video stories, texts and their own lives.
This lesson is part of a collection of topics on Share My Lesson from Girl Rising that work in conjunction with each other. It includes the Senna and Suma videos, teacher instructions, a student worksheet, background information on the importance of educating girls, issue fact sheets on Human Trafficking and Oppression, and poems and songs by Senna and Suma.
