Equitable, Engaging, and Subversive Teaching with the Folger Method: Students Talk Back to Complex Texts

Please join Dr. Peggy O'Brien, Corinne Viglietta and Share My Lesson to feed your mind AND learn strategies to use in class tomorrow.

The future of the humanities depends on the insights of ALL our students. How do we give every student the tools and opportunities to make meaningful contributions to the ongoing conversation of humankind? What role does literature have to play in this work, and what do we mean by “literature,” anyway? How do we connect ALL students with texts that speak to them, challenge them, and stretch their minds and hearts? In practical terms, how do we get students not only understanding but also speaking back to a vast and rich range of texts?

Now Available On Demand. Original Air Date: March 26, 2020.

Join this virtual workshop to (1) tackle some of the biggest questions facing ELA classrooms today and (2) gain practical, step-by-step strategies for engaging ALL students in reading that is active, social, equitable, adventurous, subversive (yes!), and life-changing. Great ideas at a time when we really need them. Wish the session I attended could have been longer, though!
