The haircut’ is a fully resourced, step-by-step multisensory poem that can be used as a full lesson/teaching session.

Set around a visit to a barber/hairdresser, it aims to desensitise individuals to the sensory experiences encountered, helping them to overcome barriers to their hair care and to promote and develop self care skills in personal grooming.

This resource is aimed at individuals with SEN, ASD, Complex Needs, SPD, PMLD, Global Delay and other learning Needs aged 3-19. It is also suitable for preschoolers and infants.

Multisensory stories and poems tell a story through sensory stimuli (story props) that engage the learner in a fun and motivating way connecting them to  literacy in a way that is meaningful to the individual. The props are low budget items that can be found in the home or around the classroom.

The stories and poems are adapted to meet a range of abilities and needs from curious pre-schoolers to teenagers with complex needs. They can be used in mainstream and SEN schools as the combination of sensory stimuli, rhyme and the repetitive structure of the stories forms an excellent base on which to scaffold learning.

Listening to rhyme and rhythm supports memory and aids learning playing a crucial role in language development, the learning of concepts, communication and early literacy skills such as listening and attention skills, anticipation, turn-taking and making choices.

This resource is in a 22 page eBook format and includes:
