Hi Carol, I've used this type of code in previous lessons with students. Look at MNO on the complete map. It is in a four-sided box. So if you see a four-sided box in the code, you know that the letter must be either M, N, or O. If the dot is on the left of the four-sided box, the letter is M. If the dot is in the middle of the four-sided box, the letter is N. If the dot is on the right of the four-sided box, the letter is O. All boxes can be compared with the complete map. Whichever lines are missing will correlate with the similar box on the complete map. Once the students get the hang of it, they really enjoy it!

Very good - one suggestion.
Very good - one suggestion. Could you provide a little more direction for Clue 5 for this teacher... I didn't have time to work through the entire activity.
