What causes your fingers to wrinkle in the tub? Do fingers wrinkles help you grip wet objects? After learning about the nervous system response that causes finger wrinkles, students will be introduced to the notion that finger wrinkles improve our ability to grip wet objects. This science lesson has students conduct a (literally) hands-on experiment to test this hypothesis. Students will collect and interpret quantitative data, and use their data to argue whether or not their hypothesis is supported. Materials required: water bottle, a paperclip, and a plastic ruler.
