Amanda Morin is a senior writer and expert for Understood. She writes and vets the content that Understood uses to educate and empower the millions of teachers and parents of children who learn and think differently.
Prior to Understood, she worked as a classroom teacher and early intervention specialist for 10 years, teaching kindergarten and also working with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers with disabilities. As an educator and also as a parent of kids with learning differences, she has been an active member of numerous Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams and believes strongly in the importance of educators partnering with families.
As a freelance education writer, she’s worked with websites and publishers specializing in education and parenting. Winner of a 2017 SmartBrief Education Editor’s Choice Content Award, Morin has written three books for F+W Media (now an imprint of Simon & Schuster). Her other clients included Education.com, the New York Times, Parenting Special Needs Magazine, and Circle of Moms. She has also served as an expert resource for numerous outlets, including NPREd, Education Week, the Associated Press, The Atlantic, Washington Post, and more. Morin received a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Maine and special education advocacy training from the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates.
