Having wood floors inside the home is rapidly gaining popularity across the globe. Whether for aesthetic purposes or other advantages, people are starting to prefer wood over any other kind of flooring material. As forest trees are getting scarcer each year, a new type of wood floor has emerged -- Bamboo Flooring.
Bamboo is Durable
Bamboo flooring, contrary to its flexible nature, is very durable. Surprisingly, it is more resistant to scratches and dents than most types of wood. Lighter and more natural colors are harder than maple. Dark or carbonized bamboo, which is darker in color but 30% softer than its light counterpart, can be compared to black walnut.
Bamboo is Moisture Resistant
Since it is grass, it is naturally able to withstand large quantities of moisture. In fact, it does better in wet environments compared to many types of wood. It does not easily create gaps due to contraction and shrinkage as hardwood does.
Bamboo is Easy to Maintain
Like many types of wood floors, bamboo is easy to clean and maintain. Sweeping the floor daily added with occasional mopping or vacuuming already enough to keep it clean and tidy. Stains, of course, needs to be wiped off immediately and should not be allowed to linger for extended periods of time.
Bamboo Is Sustainable
It is important to note that despite its abundance, not all species are suitable for strand woven bamboo flooring. Certain species that are good for flooring, moso being the most popular, grows rapidly and can reach over forty to fifty feet in just as short as one year. It also matures as early as five years. And because of its grass nature, it does not need replanting once it is cut down. It can grow back right on top of the rhizomes that were left behind.
Bamboo is Cheap
Being very abundant and easy to replenish, bamboo prices are really competitive, if not cheaper, than wood of the same quality. Manufacturing and installation are also much easier with bamboo. Since bamboo sprouts is able to grow from where it was cut, a lot of space is not needed for reproduction. Its rapid growth and maturity makes resources hard to deplete and therefore, supplies will always be available. Thus, abundance and low-cost manufacturing makes bamboo a very affordable resource.
The beauty of bamboo flooring is unique and pleasant. It adds value to your home and delivers natural feel and comfort. Best of all, it is environment friendly. As soon as use of bamboo becomes popular and widespread, we will soon be seeing our forests growing back. With bamboo floors, you are not just making your home more attractive. You are also contributing to the environment to grow back.
