About This Lesson

A three-lesson activity (could be compressed into two if HW time used) in which students do independent work measuring the defining characteristics of a polymer. The polymer is polyacrylate; which absorbs many times its own mass of water; and is used in nappies. Student groups then plan how to present their findings at a trade fair in which they try to persuade representatives from manufacturing companies to buy the polymer for use in their products.

Fantastic been looking for something useful and real to use in teaching this topic - its so difficult to find a good experiment to conduct without too many safety precautions etc... thanks my students will appreciate this!

Excellent project, really enjoyed using this with a higher level group. They came up with some excellent ideas, the winner of these was 'Perspishirts'! Thanks for sharing.
