About This Lesson
We had been studying Praise Song For My Mother and I wanted to give students an unseen poem to compare in preparation for an exam. I asked a volunteer to measure various things of increasing size using first a ruler and then a tape-measure. I did not offer to hold the other end of the tape so they found it very difficult and this led into the activity well.
A very useful resource which will engage the learners' attention. The idea of measuring is brought into sharp focus and the learners are encouraged to think metaphorically.
