About This Lesson
These 8 documents are part of a short unit on the brutal murder of Emmett Louis Till. We start by viewing the documentary, The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till. The questions I pose as they watch the video are attached. There are two songs and five poems about the tragedy that we carefully read, annotate, and discuss. There is a homework assignment where the students have to write a well-developed paragraph on a song, focusing on a specific literary device. There is also a writing assessment, where students are asked to read two pieces about Till and write about them.
