What are some of your favorite multi-purpose SEL content pieces or tools?

I am always searching for fantastic content that seems to do more than just meet one discipline's objectives. I started using several different short animations to teach SEL, Literacy, and ELA at the same time.

One powerful video that teaches empathy and teamwork is the Pixar short, Kitbull. https://youtu.be/AZS5cgybKcI

What I love about this piece (9 minutes long) is that the story has no words so it is perfect for an ELA classroom or mixed competencies environment. The story also has overtones that support diversity and inclusion.

I debrief the video using open ended questions like:
How did you feel when you saw how the bull dog was treated?
Who has helped you in your life like the kitten helped the dog?

The discussion is always so rich that I struggle to document all the epiphanies and exposition. Also, most students are enthusiastic about engaging even when their levels are quite different.

Please share titles or links to your favorite content and tell us a bit about why it is valuable to you in your instruction.

Thanks!

Practice of Gratitude and Grit decreases Predisposition to Suicide I always start my class with a circle of gratitude. This sets the day and environment up to be a more positive and healthy place to learn. Over time, I have watched students improve their sophistication and authenticity with giving thanks. It provides a space for students and instructors to model and learn from each other without judgement. As students develop their comfort with giving gratitude, they naturally increase their vulnerability which directly increases the likelihood of overall risk taking and establishment of grit. Here is a link to a great article that dives into the manifold of benefits of Gratitude and Grit.https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0092656613000597
