Green Schools Initiative works to reduce the environmental footprint of K-12 schools by engaging students, teachers, parents, and staff to take action, using the school campus as a hands-on sustainability lab. Our website – www.greenschools.net - provides lessons and ideas for activities – aligned with standards – across a variety of pathways, including waste/recycling, energy/climate, water, gardens, food, environmental health, outdoor/nature, and Earth Day. In addition, the Nature’s Voices Project collects student stories about the transformative power of their environmental education experiences and publishes them on www.naturesvoices.org. These student writing and reflection lessons – aligned with Common Core standards – help amplify youth voices calling for green schools and environmental education and provide simple lesson plans and writing prompts for teachers to integrate Language Arts into environmental education activities.
