About This Lesson

The core text for this PBL is The Time Machine by H. G. Wells. Students will create two individual pieces of writing for a class collection called Voices Across Time. First, they will write a diary in the voice of the Time Traveller. Then, they will write as themselves to propose a school activity that helps preserve UAE heritage. Their  writing should help readers consider what future generations need to remember and learn.

Purpose and audience

Diary: explore a character’s experience and changing understanding. Write as a private diary; the teacher and classmates will read it as a creative response to the novel.

Letter: persuade the principal to support one practical heritage activity. The letter is an assessment draft and does not need to be sent.
