About This Lesson

On January 27, we recognize International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The day was designated by the United Nations in 2005 and was chosen because it is the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Learn more from educator Sari Beth Rosenberg as she shares about some of the brave women who resisted the Nazis.

This lesson plan and video also highlight the remarkable stories of women who witnessed the Holocaust, including Anne Frank, Sophie Scholl, Paulette Nardal, Eugénie Éboué-Tell, Jane Vialle, Josephine Baker, Selma van de Perre and Mimi Reinhardt. Their experiences and resilience provide powerful insights into the human spirit and the importance of remembering this historical tragedy.
