Damon Huss is director of publications at Teach Democracy (formerly Constitutional Rights Foundation). He edits BRIA (Bill of Rights in Action) magazine, leads teacher professional development workshops, and co-develops curriculum for many of Teach Democracy’s programs, including Civic Action Project. His writing has been published in Social Studies Review and the Loyola Law School International and Comparative Law Review. He is the director of the California Three Rs Project on teaching about religion in public schools.
Before Teach Democracy, Damon was a criminal-defense attorney with the Los Angeles County Public Defender, a professional mediator, and a middle-school social-studies teacher. He earned his B.A. in history (and minor in cinema) from USC, his M.Ed. at UCLA, and his J.D. from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles.
Damon was awarded the Hilda Taba Award from the California Council for the Social Studies (CCSS) in 2021, which is CCSS’s highest honor and is awarded to a Californian who has made a significant contribution to social studies education in California.
