Joanne Parsont is the Director of Education for the California Film Institute, where she oversees year-round programs that serve more than 8,000 young people­—and hundreds of educators, adults, and families—per year through screenings, events, seminars, and workshops. She is a media education specialist and film festival programmer with more than 25 years of experience in film literacy, youth media, and children’s and documentary programming. Prior to joining CFI in 2017, she served as the Director of Education for the San Francisco Film Society and was a freelance consultant to several film festivals and museums around the country and provided educational outreach services to independent filmmakers. She served on the board of the National Association for Media Literacy Education from 2015-2020.
