Founded in 2003, the nonprofit organization StoryCorps has given more than 400,000 people the chance to record interviews about their lives, pass wisdom from one generation to the next, and leave a legacy for the future. StoryCorps shares edited excerpts of these recordings with millions each week through popular weekly NPR broadcasts, animated shorts, digital platforms, and best-selling books. StoryCorps’ mission is to preserve and share humanity’s stories in order to build connections between people and create a more just and compassionate world.
This school year, StoryCorps is once again bringing you The Great Thanksgiving Listen, a national intergenerational learning project based on a simple idea: find an elder you love and interview them about their life.
Download the StoryCorps App to record and archive your interview in the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, where it will become an invaluable resource for future historians and provide families with a priceless piece of history. Last Thanksgiving, over 100,000 Americans participated across all 50 states to capture the voices of an entire generation in a single weekend. This Thanksgiving, empower your students to make history with their loved ones.
