Scot is Vice President of Academics at Close Up and a doctoral candidate in teacher education and curriculum studies at Indiana University. Scot conducts professional development with both Close Up and Indiana University focused on political polarization, engaging students in controversial issue deliberations, and facilitating productive dialogue. Scot currently serves on the leadership group of the Teaching for Democracy Alliance, a collaborative effort of many civic education organizations to promote democratic learning and to better equip K-12 teachers and administrators to bring practical democracy lessons to their students. He was born in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and lived in Italy and Spain before attending college at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. where he received a B.A. in History and an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction.
