Students learn about the 1960's Grape Boycott and Huerta's work to improve the terrible working conditions of Farm Workers. The role that Huerta played in establishing the United Farm Workers Union was pivotal in affecting change, and as a woman in the 1960’s Huerta’s impact was often overlooked. Help your students to explore ways in which Dolores Huerta is honored today through the music of Alice Bag, the poetry of Nikki Darling, and the artwork of Shepard Fairey. As a culminating activity, this lesson ends with a super cool art project.
