Join Shalonda Jenkins of First Book, AFT's Leslie Getzinger and Share My Lesson to discuss how educators across the country are eager to incorporate meaningful civic engagement opportunities into their work with students. Especially during this, an election year, the desire to promote social consciousness and to help students see themselves as empowered citizens continues to grow.

From kindergartners starting recycling programs to high school students leading voter education initiatives, learn how the AFT-First Book partnership continues to show youth they have a voice in our democracy as well as provide educators and community leaders with insight on how to use books and resources from First Book to support initiatives and inspire civic engagement within their classrooms, communities and beyond! First Book and AFT will highlight how AFT affiliates throughout the country have used First Book resources at their voter registration events, used First Book as a volunteer experience for youth in the community, and provided books to children that help to support social cohesion and civic action both in and out of the classroom. Participants will leave with actionable ideas to begin or continue promoting civic engagement in their community.
