Join EDSITEment and Share My Lesson for a lesson on how educators can teach using history, civics, and the arts together.
Organized around the compelling question “How have Asian American and Pacific Islanders engaged civically and contributed to U.S. culture?”, and grounded in inquiry-based teaching and learning, this session focuses on how educators can use EDSITEment to bring history, civics, and the arts together to teach about experiences and perspectives of Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI). Educators will examine primary sources, literature, and works of art created by AAPI individuals and related organizations available through EDSITEment that provide an historical as well as contemporary context for concepts and issues including rights, civic participation, history, and culture.
Participants will be invited to discuss their own approaches and strategies, as well as have opportunities to consider how these materials can be used in connection with African American, Women’s, and Asian American and Pacific Island history month lessons. Inquiry-based strategies and questions, along with differentiated formative assessments aligned with the NCSS C3 standards and inquiry-arc and CCSS will be shared during this interactive session.
