About This Webinar
Medical debt affects millions of Americans, including people who have health insurance. Whether it's rising premium costs, higher deductibles, out-of-network costs, denied claims or copays and coinsurance – it’s costing more just to access care.
Join Dr. Vin Gupta, a leading public health expert and pulmonologist, in conversation with AFT President Randi Weingarten, and special guests Berneta Haynes, Senior Attorney at the National Consumer Law Center, and Kati Bassler, AFT member and Vice President of the Salinas Valley Federation of Teachers.
Participants will hear about the SVFT's campaign to force a local hospital system to reduce inflated medical costs for its members, and about the Model Medical Debt Protection Act, developed by the National Consumer Law Center to help state advocates fight abusive medical collection practices and expand patient financial assistance.
This session is part of AFT’s Vital Lessons webinar series, bringing timely, trusted and practical health and wellness conversations to members in education, healthcare and public services.
