Midterm elections are around the corner: Tuesday, Nov. 8. DoGoodery in partnership with Amazon Studios and Participate has a collection of resources focused on teaching about our right to vote and how voting is the lever through which Americans choose their representatives and exercise their rights as citizens. Yet dating back to the founding of our country, the right to vote has also been about power. Every time our nation takes a step toward a more just and equal society—granting the franchise, women’s suffrage, desegregation—new forces arise that require us to fight for the right to vote anew.
You can watch and learn as well as access community and discussion guides from the film All In: The Fight for Democracy, which explores some fundamental questions:
- Who gets to participate in our democracy?
- Which groups of people are often pushed aside in voting, and why is this problematic?
- How can we all work together to sustain the right to vote?
Additionally, you can download the free Grow a Voter curriculum, including content specific to civics and government, history and media literacy. You also can take a free course based on the film All In: The Fight for Democracy. This course, open to everyone, allows you to learn about:
- What makes for free and fair elections;
- Why civic literacy is so important for a democracy to survive and thrive; and
- How you can become active in your community.
Be sure to take advantage of these free resources to understand all that is at stake in the Nov. 8 election.
