JAM Out with Jazz Appreciation
"The spirit of jazz is the spirit of openness." — Herbie Hancock
Jazz Appreciation Month (April) is an annual festival held to celebrate jazz as an original American musical genre. April was chosen as a dedicated time to commemorate the birthdays of jazz greats Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Gerry Mulligan and Tito Puente. Throughout the year, schools are encouraged to teach students about the history and the genre of jazz. Celebrate Jazz Appreciation with your students using these free preK-12 lesson plans, resources and activities selected by the Share My Lesson team.
