About This Lesson

How does your PII create a risk for doxxing, and what can you do about it?

Most students don't think twice about what they post, tag, or search for, but someone else might be paying close attention. Doxxing isn't just something that happens to celebrities or public figures. It's a real risk, powered by the everyday personally identifiable information (PII) that students share without realizing it. In this lesson, students search for themselves online, discover what's already out there, and learn to use the WWW framework (Who, Why, What) to evaluate their digital privacy and protect it.

Objectives

  • Explain how personally identifiable information (PII) can be collected and combined to increase doxxing risk
  • Apply the WWW (Who, Why, What) framework to evaluate the risk of sharing personal information online
  • Identify steps to protect their digital privacy and respond if their PII is exposed
