About This Lesson
Help early-elementary students practice patience, turn-taking, and expressive reading with a free social-emotional learning (SEL) reader’s theater lesson. In this story, Kai learns why waiting and taking turns matter in a classroom community. The resource includes three differentiated reading versions (low, medium, and high), an eight-scene reader’s theater script, teacher guidance and answer keys, student worksheets, discussion and application prompts, and a self-grading quiz option. Designed for Grades 1–3 and approximately 10–15 minutes of reading aloud, the lesson works for small groups, fluency practice, morning meeting, and SEL instruction. Editable and printable lesson formats are described on the original Reader’s Theater Worksheets resource page.
