The Child Trends News Service project leverages local TV news—the primary news source for most people—to broaden access and exposure to education research among parents and teachers, with a focus on reaching Latinos and low-income families more broadly. The project is a collaborative partnership between Child Trends, a child development research center and Ivanhoe Broadcast News, a leading TV syndicated news company. Through local TV news, the project reaches underserved audiences with limited access to alternative sources of research-based information.

The project’s newsfeed, Positive Parenting, airs in nearly 60 percent of all U.S. TV markets and reaches millions of people throughout the country with monthly news reports in both English and Spanish. The reports feature findings from rigorous education and special education research and highlight research-based recommendations for parents and teachers. Child Trends was funded by the Institute of Education Sciences to strategically communicate education and special education research through local TV news and other frequently utilized information channels. This project aims to build knowledge of and value for education research to inform education practice across contexts.
