About This Lesson
A "Project Respect" curriculum for teens typically focuses on healthy relationships, dating violence prevention, and life skills to help young people make informed decisions.
A common curriculum used by various organizations is Relationship Smarts PLUS (often referenced in connection with these topics) or a similar multi-lesson approach, which includes:
- Self-Awareness: Understanding personal strengths, weaknesses, values, and goals.
- Developing Healthy Relationships: Identifying characteristics like trust, respect, honest communication, and independence as the building blocks of positive connections, and learning how to pace relationships and date safely.
- Identifying and Addressing Unhealthy/Dangerous Relationships: Learning to recognize red flags like control, jealousy, and abuse, understanding dating violence and sexual assault, setting boundaries, and knowing how to safely exit an abusive situation.
- Communication and Conflict Resolution: Developing skills for effective communication, conflict management, anger regulation, and problem-solving (like the Speaker-Listener Technique).
This is an outline of the lesson we use with tons of flexibility with the activities as well as talking points.
