This lesson (developed for Northcentral ED 5001-3) leads students through an exploration of their dream life. If students are working in their dream career, can they budget for their dream car and house? Can they pay for their student loans and their other bills? This lesson helps students create a budget will graphing and creating linear equations, finding the breakeven point, and using percentages.
Algebra 1: Future Budgeting Exploration
Create equations and inequalities in one variable and use them to solve problems.
Represent constraints by equations or inequalities, and by systems of equations and/or inequalities, and interpret solutions as viable or non-viable options in a modeling context.
Solve systems of linear equations exactly and approximately (e.g., with graphs), focusing on pairs of linear equations in two variables.
