About This Lesson

In this 2-week basketball unit, students will be introduced to the history of basketball along with basic terms, rules, and skills. Students will view introductory videos on certain skills and apply them as they circulate though stations to practice the necessary skill sets such as: dribbling, passing, layups, shooting, and defense. In conclusion to this unit, students will apply skills and compete in an in-house tournament. Then, they will write an essay or present a PowerPoint on a basketball player of their choosing. They are to share the history of this athlete and what attracted them to that player. They are also required to explain what connections they feel they have in common with this player.
