For this activity, I use Kevin Crossley-Holland's translation of Beowulf. Students need a great deal of practice with speaking and writing complete sentences using correct verb and pronoun usage. One of the most efficient ways of teaching this skill is to have students use essay style answers both in their speaking and their writing. As they play this competitive Essay Bingo game, students work on hearing and using essay-style answers as they review for a unit test on Beowulf. Keywords: Kevin Crossley-Holland, Beowulf, verb usage, pronoun usage, essay-style.Aligned to CCSS: L.8.1 , RL.8.10
