This unit will primarily be focused on the Black experience in America, starting with the end of the Civil War, policies that have been enacted to halt the progression of Black Americans in society, and discriminatory laws. Towards the end of the unit students will be able to identify the ways racism and prejudice against Black Americans has renamed itself in different laws and policies in 2020.
Includes: Civil War, Emancipation Proclamation and Juneteenth, Reconstruction Era, the 13th Amendment, the 14th Amendment, Black Codes and Pig Laws, Jim Crow Laws, Contemporary Race Issues
