About This Lesson

Over the past month, 4th grade students have had the opportunity to learn, explore, and analyze different Civil Disobedience Acts that occurred during the Civil Rights Movement (School Integration, Sit Ins, March on Washington, Selma March, Montgomery Bus Boycott, and Freedom Rides).  Students have had the opportunity to choose one of these 6 Acts of Civil Disobedience to research and explore.  They have created posters that presented multiple views of the Act and have written a 1st hand journal account of their choose act.  Below is more in-depth description of the journal entry.

Students will pick one of the Civil Disobedience acts and write a 1st hand account in their Social Studies  journal through the lens they were a participant or witness of the Civil Disobedience Act.  Once they have chosen their Civil Disobedience act they will use the guided questions below to base their journal entry on.

●        Why did they decide to be apart of the act or witness ?

  •         How did they feel before, during, and after the act?
  •          What did they witness and experience?  What did they see people do?  What did they hear people say?
  •          What they did learn?
  •         What did they take away?

Now, that the students have completed their journal entries they will publish them on kidblog.org and review a few of their peers to provide positive and construction comments/feedback.  The lesson uploaded is Day 1 of a 3 day lesson.  It revolves around blended learning, enabling the teacher to use technology and provide small group work for enrichment and to support struggling learners.
