About This Lesson
Building a sense of community in programs and classrooms is especially critical at the beginning of the school year, restoring students’ feelings of comfort and readiness to learn. Schools teach by example what it means to be part of a community, including being part of a team and working together to solve a shared problem.
Being back in full school buildings and youth programming after the summer break — and potentially orienting to changing routines as a result of the pandemic — may require more attention to solving problems and working cooperatively. Students may not always be able to identify a problem, so it is important for educators to help them learn how to analyze the situation.
