Chemical Reactions: Arrangements of Atoms - Legends of Learning

In this series of games, your students will learn about the components of chemical reactions and how they change. The Chemical Reactions: Arrangements of Atoms learning objective — based on NGSS and state standards — delivers improved student engagement and academic performance in your classroom, as demonstrated by research.

This lesson is accompanied by nine (9) standards-based science games and a teacher-crafted lesson plan, which can be found at the following link: https://www.legendsoflearning.com/learning-objectives/chemical-reactions-arrangements-of-atoms/

Standards

Develop models to describe the atomic composition of simple molecules and extended structures.
Develop a model that predicts and describes changes in particle motion, temperature, and state of a pure substance when thermal energy is added or removed.
Analyze and interpret data on the properties of substances before and after the substances interact to determine if a chemical reaction has occurred.
Develop and use a model to describe how the total number of atoms does not change in a chemical reaction and thus mass is conserved.
Use the periodic table as a model to predict the relative properties of elements based on the patterns of electrons in the outermost energy level of atoms.
Use the periodic table as a model to predict the relative properties of elements based on the patterns of electrons in the outermost energy level of atoms.
Plan and conduct an investigation to gather evidence to compare the structure of substances at the bulk scale to infer the strength of electrical forces between particles.
