The Chemistry of Life

Unit Overview: Chapter 2 takes an in-depth look at the different subatomic particles that make up an atom, and then expands upon that with the introduction of elements. Students should have previous knowledge of this material from their 7th and 8th-grade science classes, but I find that most of them have forgotten the material by the time they get to high school. Chapter 2 focuses on the differentiation of subatomic particles, properties of water, the breakdown of carbohydrates, and enzymes. These are the entail building blocks of science, that will later be expanded upon as they progress through their education.
