About This Lesson

This is an integrated unit for second grade, integrating ELA Common Core Standards and Social Studies. Students will read various informational texts about Christmas (or other winter holiday) traditions from cultures around the world. The unit will hook” the students by students sharing their own family traditions. This will then lead into discussion about how Christmas and other winter holidays are celebrated differently around the world. Aligned to Common Core State Standards: RI.2.5, W.2.2 , W.2.8

Thank you for your comment and for pointing this out to us. You are correct; and we understand that Ramadan should not necessarily be included as a winter holiday, unless of course it happens to fall during the winter months, which won't happen for a few years. Thanks again--we always appreciate the input!

Ramadan is not a winter holiday. Since it is based on a lunar calendar, the month of Ramadan moves up 10 days every year. In 2018 Ramadan will be observed in May/June.
