This lesson is meant to integrate a Black History Month lesson with a unit on World War II. The opening class discussion gets students thinking about importance of multicultural education and the underlying theme racism during World War II. The PowerPoint presentation covers the "culture of discrimination" leading up to 1939, African-Americans on the home-front and front-lines, Doris Miller, and the Double V Campaign. Students will be asked to complete a timeline of Civil Rights during World War II.
