About This Lesson

Create a foldable describing division, dividend, divisor, quotient. Then read the book "The Doorbang Rang" to introduce and reinforce the concept of fair sharing. Then show Christine's Video, pass out graph paper, and then model 84/12= ? demonstrating area model. Wrap up with exit slip of drawing division. Aligned to Common Core State Standard: 4.NBT.6

Standards

Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.

The You Tube video does not make sense for students because it is completely unclear how building that model relates to getting that quotient. "Matching" the 100's/10's/1's does not explain why the instructor is doing what she is doing.
Great visual for learning division.
