About This Lesson

<p>This lesson introduces how to convert fractions to decimals by dividing the numerator by the denominator. The lesson is meant to be an introduction, in the concrete stage, and uses base ten blocks. Includes the lesson plan and Smartboard file. The Smartboard file needs to be opened with the notebook software.</p>Aligned to Common Core State Standards: 5.NF.3 , 5.NBT.7

Standards

Interpret a fraction as division of the numerator by the denominator (๐‘Ž/๐‘ = ๐‘Ž รท ๐‘). Solve word problems involving division of whole numbers leading to answers in the form of fractions or mixed numbers, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem.
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used.
