About This Lesson

Resource: Current news: Trawling ban

Description

Media (20 min newsreel): Catch up with the current news on the shrimp trawling ban with this round up of relevant news articles. Costa Rica banned shrimp trawling to protect marine species, but many people depend on the shrimp to make a living. Should the ban be lifted?

  • See the media: Ocean School makes media/activity combinations. Each piece of media is linked to an activity. You can access this video by visiting the Ocean School website or by visiting the direct link here. If you like this media, you can see all of the available resources in the Ocean School Resource Catalogue. Everything in Ocean School is provided free to the public.

Activity (1 hr): Gain perspective -- Using the articles, students are challenged to think from the perspective of four different stakeholders in a shrimp trawling ban. They are invited to create a comic or dramatic dialogue illustrating the different perspectives.

  • Want another format? We offer a Google Slides version of the activity, a Microsoft Powerpoint version of the activity, and a PDF version of the activity on the Ocean School website.
