About This Lesson

This lesson is the third in a series called “Issues of Poverty.” Students explore the causes of poverty in the United States and the structural factors that perpetuate it. Students will examine the ways poverty is closely related to economic and political policy, and will work to discover why it disproportionately affects members of nondominant groups—that is, groups that have historically been oppressed. Lesson 2 can be found under the title "Poverty and Unemployment: Exploring the Connection."

Great active learning plan. I will use it after students have completed readings on poverty to keep it aligned with CCSS.

Good resource, but difficult to follow path of lessons when they are not all posted together.

Handouts allow students the opportunity to discuss ideas. It would be easier to follow the lessons if they were all posted together along with the readings and worksheets.
